Short Description of the idea (max 50 words)

Using large tv screens with funny images (no or limited amount of commercials) or interesting facts of the city, pleasant music, odor and public pianos could boost the passengers' experience of the public transport system.

Full Description of the idea

Many subway/metro stations are designed functionally, i.e., focusing on costs, traffic flows, safety and security. However, paying more attention to design features that can increase passengers' experience could increase public transport ridership. For example, large TV screens like in the cities of Rotterdam and Zwolle, the Netherlands showing particularly (short) fun movies. In Zwolle, the movies show e.g. cavemen or sheep walking down the same transfer passage way. Furthermore, in many other cities around the Netherlands, public piano's are located at train stations. All people entering the stations are encouraged to play the piano. There are people who like having an audience when playing the piano, and the atmosphere is boosted as a result. Using more colors, music and odor could increase the passengers' experience too.
